Before the Quake

It was serendipity, nothing more, nothing less, which led
my husband to buy these novels by Japanese writer
Haruki Murakami last night.
Less than twelve hours later Japan was rocked by a massive earthquake
and devastating tsunami. Television footage looks like something
from a disaster movie, reminding us of the forces of nature and
the frailty of human life.
I am never going to complain about the Irish weather again - it might
be miserable a lot of the time, but it's rarely life-threatening.

One of my favourite authors....and I agree with your sentiments, we often take our situation far too much for granted until something as awful as this happens...

You are so right and the news are even more devastating and frightening today! Your capture of the moment is perfect!V!

Having experienced earthquakes in Indonesia and here in California, I can say that they are terrifying because of the utter feeling of helplessness one has during the tremors. Hopefully the seismic activity in Japan will lessen for a while now that the faults have shifted.

a timely purchase for certain..the people of Japan are paying a tragic price for sleeping with the tectonic elephant that has once again lashed out at them..

Shocking scenes in Japan that continue to get worse, definately two books for JJ, nicely taken.

Seeing that footage yesterday morning put lifes problems into perspective

One feels so lucky after watching the terror and horror of the tsunami and quake! Lovely to see these books...

I was looking at the drear outside my window today thinking the same thing. Well put.

Beautiful image Mairead. The earthquake in Japan is devastating. It makes us realize we are all connected. V

Serendipity for sure! Let us all hope that the loss of human life is not as devastating as the videos have looked. I like the titles of these two books. Hope they are a good read.

I agree wholly with your sentiments, Mairead. Reading about something as frightful and as sobering as the Japanese earthquake puts things in perspective.

Perhaps it was more than coincidence. I always enjoy your comments as well as the photography. ~V~

Great shot of these novels...love the light. Your comments are echoed by so many right
now....no one is every prepared for the level of devastation Japan is experiencing. - Racine

I said the same thing about our weather. Well put and nicely shot.

And that's why I don't mind the snow - you can always stay indoors no matter long it lasts. Hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes are so much more devastating than a snow storm. It's going to be terrible there in Japan for so long.

I agree completely with your comments, feeling so thankful for being safe in my home...
Love the author, and you made a perfect shot of the boos.

Yes, I saw that this morning. The earth seems unusually restless at the moment after taking out a chunk of Christchurch in New Zealand only a few weeks ago.
You've got some good lighting on this; enough to keep the spines bright and sharp but with no sharply defined shadow behind, which could have been distracting.
Jim Larkin11-Mar-2011 21:56
Perfect light fall off. I like this one.
Phillip Normanton11-Mar-2011 21:34
Definitely shades of JJ in both those titles :o) Could hardly believe the picture on the telly...
David Hobbs11-Mar-2011 21:13
Nice picture and interesting commentary.

Love those titles, I could used them. I agree with your comments on Japan, so sad.

I hope that he enjoys them both. We do tend to moan don't we?!
