Thank you for the comments. This bird is a pond/stream specialist an perches on branches and then drops on its prey normally insect’s , small fish and tadpoles. I live in suburbia (Have a Mc Donalds 1km) down the road, although we do have vineyard 2Km down the road for a bit of balance. I put out feeders and have running water (Fountains) which attract the birds. We get about 50 different birds every year. We have the resident riffraff (Doves, sparrows G/F etc) but they seem to attract the more exotics with lots of activity on the ground. I.E. the redwing and other starlings only stop to drink at the fountains. All this activity also attracts the raptors mainly goshawks , peregrine’s and some others. (Feeding time at the zoo). For the KF you have to get off your bum and find them. This was done with Corel painter and I liked the way it came out.

The treatment is excellent, Collin. As Shirley says, it's like thick oils. Well done!

I like this. Very effective PP, that makes pop this magnificent bird up. I like very much Kingfishers, but I haven't seen one of them except once in my life, and only as a fantastic ray of blue light crossing my path.

you have such beautiful flora and fauna,, in South Africa,, I would love to visit, my fear is I would get eaten by some critter,, but I guess you have survived, with do you have a bird feeder, like I do in New Jersey,, with back yard birds, besides your Safari type expos?

I like this Collin! It looks very much like a thick oil painting. King Fishers are very elusive to my cameras, this is a great catch.
