Two male Canada geese fought over territory for a good 15 minutes with one getting the brunt of a particularly brutal attack. At one point the females got into it with each other as seen in this shot where one of the females is reaching up to bite the other. At this time the two males were locked together with bite holds on each others' neck. The fight progressed to where the one male pinned the other one down and bit viciously at his head, neck and back pulling large feathers out. There was a time when the underdog got so quiet and was stretched out on the ground in such a way that I actually wondered if he had been killed. He survived but laid for a long time trying to recover. I think the only reason the fight broke up is that they ended up close to the road and the cars spooked the aggressor. Fascinating to watch but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the weaker of the two geese.
