suckers for punishment - brenda
by

This is part of an original leech jar, used by Victorian doctors to treat patients who were thought to require the removal of impurities from the blood. The top has air holes so the creatures can breathe. The jar sits on a low pedestal. I used a film-grain filter on top of the high ISO to make this look like an old photo. Makes you shiver - doesn't it? I wonder what our children will look back at with wonder? I saw this show where they were growing human organs on animals - I hope I die first.

Thanks for the explanation, I had no idea what this could be otherwise. Actually, I have read that leeches are still used in medicine to prevent blood clotting but I doubt if they use apparatus like this.

Is it time for the spring bloodletting already?
The treatment works well here.

Great title, Brenda! Thank God they're no longer in vogue!
