Chinese New Year (1)

Saigon

We took a day off from the tour and visited Cholon, Saigon's Chinatown and
Vietnam's largest Chinese community.

Both the Vietnamese and the Chinese people celebrate the same Lunar New Year
so this is a time for celebration for the Chinese community as well. One
difference though is the symbol for the year: this is the year of the rabbit
for the Chinese and is the year of the cat for the Vietnamese.

A monk stands at the entrance of the Quan Am (Goddess of Mercy) Pagoda and
seems to be looking for something. We decide to go inside. Built in 1740,
this is the oldest pagoda in Saigon.
