The pocket gophers are burrowing rodents of the family Geomyidae. These are the "true" gophers,
though several ground squirrels of the family Sciuridae are often called gophers as well.
The name "pocket gopher" on its own may be used to refer to any of a number of subspecies of the family.

Dexter! Great catch dad...
And actually, the snakes are considerably more friendly than he is. ;)

It is adorable, just don't think I'd want one for a pet. Bet my cats would like it, though.

Don't think we will be having one as a pet as there is more than enough excitement with the dogs chasing the squirrels. But look as if they could be interesting to have as a pet.

Hi there, and is your house a wine box?
Steve Thuman14-Feb-2011 03:47
We had them in our front lawn a few years back. I fed them carrots, which they liked.

Nice that it has its own hideaway. Not all of us do. :)

Dexter has a very cute face. Love those little ears, and the tiny tongue he is sticking out (I think). Is that his way of saying "thanks" for taking his picture?

Much nicer to pet and hold than a snake!
