Anyone who has perused my galleries at length will be aware that the twin gods in my artistic pantheon are Jeffrey Smart and Edward Hopper.
While it may be a touch presumptuous of me to dedicate this shot to the former, I think it's safe to say that some of his works, such as the Approach to a City series and to a lesser extent Approaching Storm By Railway were at least in the back of my mind when I set up this shot. Specifically, the dark and menacing sky, the brightly sunlit objects, the road leading off to the distance, the sharply defined lines and curves of the urban environment, and even the solitary figure for scale (just to the right of the left hand Give Way sign, though I'll concede that the presence of that person was more luck than design).
