All that Glitters....

14. Gold is not easily photographed (and I have very little experience since I have so few coins). The Indian Head gold is particularly hard because the design combines both raised and incuse elements. Both do not shoot well at the same time. Here is the same coin shot in direct, sharp light (left), with diffuse bounced light (center) and the two combined (right) by overlaying the first two images varying the amount of each in the final mix until you see what seemed best. Which looks like the coin? They all do depending on the conditions under which the coin is viewed.
