Buachaille in Velvia

Glencoe

Shot on Velvia 50 with my trusty old Minolta 35mm SLR
Compare with the next shot which was taken with my Nikon D700 a few minutes earlier
No colour adjustments made to the film scan (apart from toning down the blues), just levels and sharpening....
hmmm, what do you think??

I like them both a lot. I think the darker foreground in the Velvia shot sets the background better, so the light even within 10 minutes changed some. Also like the color and smoothness of the Velvia. Very nice comparison, with two very nice photographs.

wonderful photo.

I like them both, the film version is cooler in temp and looks earlier by an hour or so not just 10 minutes.
The warmer digital shot still looks great but lacks the atmospheric mist, but then gains the warmer impact.
As I say both are fantastic and really make me want to be there enjoying life.
If pressed I prefer the cooler shot because of the mist and atmosphere.
I know for sure 10 minutes earlier could of been even better or even 20 minutes later with both cameras put away the light may of changed again.
Not too sure why you included the flying saucer on the horizon , the toad in the foreground or the red herring in the stream.
The gallery is amazing , wish they were my pictures.

Another stunning shot.
I love the light on that little hill in the background (LOL).
Voted!!!!

Stewart the Velvia for me has the mid tone clarity detail ... the light is more contrasting at that given moment compared to the digital ... it is the better of the two ... however, I don't know if its you proving a point but the digital image is not your normal standard of colour, saturation, contrast or processing ... are you playing games with us and that traditionalist in you is bursting through in favour of film?

Stewart - as I said earlier the Velvia definitely has my vote, particularly better to my eye is the clarity, colour and definition in the mid ground with the rocks. The sky on the Nikon/digital looks a little over-cooked

Thanks Nigel, I desaturated the blues in the sky per your suggestion.....Doug saw it after the fix!!!

Agree, the Velvia shot is superb! The details and lighting in the foreground are wonderfully delicate - yes, subtle and sublime is an excellent way of describing it. Not sure I'd agree with Nigel about the sky though, it looks fine to me LOL!!

The velvia has it by a long way. As mentioned below by Pete, suble and sublime - as far as the light on the land is concerned anyway. The sky is a bit overdone and needs a tweak or two in Photoshop.

Subtle and sublime - the velvia lifts it to the next level.
Shall I throw my digital away?

The blues on the Velvia seem deeper .....both are great versions though!
