Here is a very wide field image of ngc 869 and 884, (the double star cluster), and IC 1805 and IC 1848, (heart and soul nebula) that reside in the constellation of Cassiopeia.
Photo details are:
Camera: Canon 40D
Lens: Nikon 50mm f1.8 @ f/4
Exposure: 7.5 mins x 16 light frames, no dark frame subtraction
Mount: Atlas EQG
Conditions: -1 degF, a bit hazy
Location: Beecher Wi
Notes: I basically turned my camera into a poor mans Schmidt camera.
A great article about the procedure can be read here:

Liveview through the canon really helps with lens calibration given you find a bright enough star considering the deep red filter you have to focus through.
In the old days, you would have to use film which was really time consuming, been there done that. I got lazy with digital:P
