Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce (1840-1914) one of the more successful 19th century Snake Oil Quacks. Dr. Pierce first started his pharmaceutical entrepreneurship in Buffalo N.Y. pushing his own "blood purifier" known as Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. He, and his son, Valentine Motts Pierce (1865 -1942) ssuccessfully sold the elixir for 90+ years.

Jim, This is really a find. I rarely see signs like this (and they used to be common). In many places they were outlawed and painted over. This is a real blast from the past and it looks to be in very good condition. It is a great addition to this series and well photographed.

Hmmmm... if they sold it for 90 years, it apparently worked, at least for them. In any case, you got another great image from their mis-adventures.

Its wonderful that they restored this sign. I love the snow - it really sets off
the building and sign. Another great job, Jim!
