Today I heard an American Tree Sparrow singing in the woods for the first time this winter. Two days ago I heard a cardinal singing for the first time this winter. The chickadees have been singing here and there since late December and that's about when I started to hear woodpeckers drumming. But I still haven't heard the nuthatches singing.
I am still not seeing the great flocks of Common Redpolls that we had last invasion year. I had some show up at my feeders on the weekend for the first time since December, but they were quickly driven off by a Merlin and I haven't seen any since. Bohemian Waxwings are around in good numbers, though, and they have been just about everywhere this last two weeks or so.
