A pretty dove sitting in a manitoba maple near the Ash Woods feeder. In some winters we have had as many as 30 doves congregating in this particular spot, but those numbers haven't been seen for several years, unfortunately.
Around here it appeared that there was a mini-population crash of doves for two years in 2008 and 2009. During those two years they were scarce, not appearing for days and sometimes weeks, and when they did show up there were only maybe 3 instead of the 9-14 that I was getting daily in other winters. This year their numbers are back to normal here so far. Maybe hawks have something to do with the population numbers. They seem to be favorite prey for hawks.
