Same Story, Different Year

C’mon folks. Look, every year we go through this. Winter is here. When there is snow and ice on the road, your four wheel drive will not help you slow down and CERTAINLY doesn’t make you invincible. SLOW DOWN. Is this worth the few seconds you will save yourself?

Luckily no one was seriously hurt in this one, though it could have been much, much worse. When I walked up to the truck there was a young guy and girl inside. She had a small cut on her forehead and he was obviously shaken. He looks at me and says “There is something wrong with the road back there, it just grabbed my truck.”

“Really?” I say. “Do you think SNOW is what’s wrong with the road?”

...silence...

This guy is my worry on days like this. I could have been driving down this road with my girls when he came left of center and hit me head-on. Not good. Not good at all. It’s more than just you on the road folks. There are a lot of people that are counting on you to be doing the right thing so that they can get to where they are going safely. I know accidents happen. They always will, but you can certainly go a long way in minimizing the chance that they will happen.

Just take it slow. Enjoy the song on the radio. Sip your coffee. You will get to where you are going.

I promise.

I know what it is but in Québec they have a law that in winter your obliged to have snow and ice tiers on your car. But in NJ or NYC when it snow well it hell.

Looks like that utility pole grabbed him also. It's a shame folks think there's no difference, Winter or Summer! Stay safe Jim.

I hate to say it but it's the same story here. Folks just going too fast for conditions. In Winter I choose my routes very carefully to try to limit the possibilities of a scene like this. Slow and steady gets me there in Winter :-)

When snow hits us here in Ireland it is like a national emergency. Everyone is scared of it. Few of us have special snow tyres. So we HAVE to slow down. As a result traffic becomes chaotic, and in our recent bad bout of snow there were more pedestrians falling on pavements, and older people falling outside their homes than scenes like this one. Dealing with snow, slow is GOOD.

Oh honey, I drive very slow in the snow and stay away from folks. I hate it when folks drive like the roads are dry. Crazies!
