This bird was foraging in a flowering eucalyptus and lost many feathers from around it's beak because of the black, pitch-like residue from the nectar. Australian birds that feed at eucalyptus flowers have longer bills than their North American counterparts allowing them to feed without losing feathers because of the sticky residue.
