I've spent the past week visiting in my home state of Kentucky. Leaving today to return to NW Ohio, I took one more photograph of one of the many unique qualities of the state.
Scott County, KENTUCKY
A drive down rural Kentucky roads reveals hundreds of miles of stone fences. Some are new, some are restored and still others have remained untouched since their creation. They are “dry stone” fences built without mortar and are amazingly durable—some are more than 200 years old. Countless miles of dry stone walls once lined Kentucky roads and divided its fields, but more than 95% of them have been lost. Correctly built, a dry stone wall will last for centuries. Their biggest enemy has always been "progress."
