Дед Мороз

"Дед Мороз" is "Santa Claus" in Russian.

This wooden Santa Claus was carved in Russia and purchased aboard the Crown Princess during a Baltic Sea cruise in 2008. He stands about a little over a foot (30cm) tall.

I don't know, I kind of like it. I may start signing my name as [Payl] changes and see who notices.

Paul, I have found that computer translators are not very good. They work for a word or two but if you're dealing with more you better forget it. Your example proves the point. I used to write to a family in Germany and bought a translator. They had to translate my computer German back into English in order to understand what I wrote. I got a refund on the software.

I gave that site a simple test by translating English to Russian then translate it right back to English. It didn't come quite as expected.

English to Russian: "Fascinating info, who knew!! Paul Alters" and it returned as: "Завораживающий info, который знал!! Паыль изменяет"

Russian to English: "Завораживающий info, который знал!! Паыль изменяет" and it returned as "Casting a spell info, which knew!! [Payl] changes"

An interesting object to have in your house. Thanks also for the link - I wouldn't have known how to display the Russian characters. Regards, Michael

Shu, a useful site that I have booked marked ishttp://babelfish.yahoo.com/

Yes, I can translate into many languages (I don't know that PBase will display it properly)(These all say "Santa Claus"):
Chinese: 圣诞老人
Greek: Άγιος Βασίλης
Japanese: サンタクロース
Korean: 산타클로스
plus a number of European languages that use the latin alphabet.
