No trip to the Jacksonville area is complete without a trip to St. Augustine and the best way to see the town - from the lighthouse. Today, Rich and I took off to do just that. The St. Augustine lighthouse was first established around 1565 as a simple wooden tower. In 1683, the wooden tower was replaced with a coquina tower and other structures were established. In 1821, Florida became a stateand on April 5, 1824, Juan Andreu was named the first lightkeeper of the first lighthouse in the State of Florida. The significance of that piece of history - that is my great-great-great-grandfather!
