To the best of my knowledge there are only three locations in Bologna where a portico is supported by wooden pillars. One is on Via Marsala, this is one of the others which is in the ghetto. Some guidebooks suggest that the only remaining ancient wooden supports are the ones on Via Marsala. I'm not sure why the other two overlooked, this is certainly an ancient part of town and the pillars date back at least as far as the ones on Via Marsala. Notice the graffiti on the central door and also on the door to the far right, there is a door to the far left out of sight which has similar graffiti work… this is strikingly characteristic of doors in the ghetto area.
