Pearl Harbor - While war is sometimes unavoidable it is always hell. This is some of the detail of the Sunpu Castle Gate that was given to Omaha from it's sister city Shizouka, Japan. It sits in Omaha's botanical gardens. This gift is a testament of love's power to conquer hate. 80% of Shizuoka was destroyed in WWII by US bombing.

The light, clarity and detail are striking. These are traditional roof tiles made by the Watanabe family in Shizuoka, Japan. Some tiles are signed on the back by the construction crew - the Japanese version of a "topping-off" signing of the final I-beam in a U.S. construction project.
