this is great! you fooled me about it being authentic...what i see here is a thoughtful composition of elements used in times of war w cracked textures to indicate age or perhaps symbolizing how things are destroyed during war...this image lends itself to one using his imagination when viewing and perhaps touches deep feelings about war itself. shu
I love suggestions and more than accept them. Believe it or not this is desaturated about 20%, maybe it needs more. I didn't even think about vignetting..... Good call, I'll play with that. Paul
Your memory and eyes are better than you think they might be. When I set up this shot I wanted to create a WW2 looking scene. Well it didn't take long for me to realize that the shot was filled with too many problems to be very realistic and you have picked up on them already.
That is my Vietnam era PFC Army shirt laying on a 1990's chair and the rifle is a 7.65mm German Mauser model 1891 that I inherited it from my father. The ammo 243.
Nothing matches but I liked the look it created. I also have a few Japanese WW2 rifles I could have used but since that was more jungle/ island naval war as compared to house to house fighting in Europe it would have matched even less.
Did you notice the fake bullet hole in the glass? Paul
Nice composition, Paul, and I like the texture you've added. I'd also try desaturating a bit and adding some vignetting for a real vintage look. Hope you don't mind my suggestions...I'm just learning about these things in a photo class in which we're using CS5. The textures are so much fun to work with!

The shirt reminds me of Ft Dix days but I've forgotten what the Lance Corporal rank was for (so much for memory at my age). Pls remind me. The rifle looks like WWI issue and the ammo real enough to do damage.
