I assume that the shadowed north side of the fort meant slightly cooler water temps. If so that might explain the heavy marine presence on this side of Fort Jefferson as opposed to the stark sunlit waters of the southern facing facade. This side is where I saw almost ALL of my fish, the jelly, even an enormous black manta ray that had to be 5-6 ft. in breadth!
