The peaceful feeding session was abruptly ended as 20 mourning doves blasted off suddenly followed by chickadees, bluejays, juncos and goldfinches. Some of the doves perched frozen in place hoping not to be noticed.

I went looking for the culprit and found it perched against a bright overcast sky. Noticed it kept cleaning its beak on the branch where it had perched. Now that I've had a look at the photos, the crop looks a bit rounded likely from a just eaten meal. The other birds didn't know that though so were not taking any chances.....just in case.
