Within seconds of this Ring-billed Gull picking this crayfish out of the water a number of other Ring-billeds came flying over looking for a share, but this gull would have none of it! He ran around with his catch for a couple of minutes as the other gulls persisted in their attempts to get a share. Eventually the other gulls gave up and went away, and moments thereafter this gull dropped his prized catch and flew off. It appeared that the crayfish was only worth something to this gull when it was in demand by others! I then went to investigate and found the poor crayfish still alive but missing most of its legs. I guess this gull only had an appetite for crayfish legs. I poked the crayfish with my hand and his pincer opened right up. I have never heard of anyone getting pinched by a crayfish but I imagine it could happen and would be quite unpleasant.
