practising low-light long exposures - brenda

This is the power dam at Tusket Falls, near my house. The flood waters have made it a precarious spot indeed. I tamed them with the long exposure, standing on the bridge across the river; I set the camera itself on the edge of a railing. It shook so hard I had problems with vibration. A Dept. of Highways guy came over to suggest I not be there. I took my shot and left.

Looks like bronze or some other burnished metal. Interesting point of view.

I like the shot, but risky situation like this demands a higher ISO.

Thanks, friends! Glad you enjoyed seeing this one as I'll never forget taking it. This was not the normal way to do long-exposure practise! Colin, I had to make it a "fast long exposure" and then get the heck out of there. I'd like to go back some night when the floodgates aren't all open as there will be much less vibration and then I can try a bunch of different F-stops.

I don't recommend that anyone try this at home. :(

you are a dare devil, here ,,so unlike the bucolic picture of your self portrait in the watercolor fashion in a garden during the earlier competition,,

Nice one brenda, very effective shot and well worth the hassle.
Just a suggestion for next time, if you stop down the lense even more to say f16 you will give even more of a starburst from the lamps. Of course the exposure will be really long so you will need a tripod!!

Strangely effective. Itnow looks like somebody's poured a whole bunch of dry ice in the river.
