I sent an email off to Demgen to confirm that it was him in the junior race, and did he know the other guy. He replied as follows:

"Man...you were everywhere!
That is Ian Jones, he was 18, I was 17 y/o. We were away and dropped everyone including LeMond and Jeff Bradley. Most talented guy of his age group in the country. Quit at 19 and went to college.
Ian flatted at one point, I waited and he got pushed up the hill after the new wheel, Illegally said one official. So they made us stop at the side of the road, put our feet down and wait for LeMond and Bardley, ended up being a 4 up sprint.
Guess I should have just gone on solo to win!!!
Big mistake, waiting for Ian and then being penalized with him as we were over a minute up with only 1 lap to go and I was on the gas"
