From Ross Burns' The monuments of Syria (excellent guide):"The loggia is a product of the late phase of the Krak, possibly associated with the last major crusade under Louis (1248-50). The Gothic style was by then established in France under Louis' influence and he may have brought a team to introduce the style to the Frankish east.
