Scattered among the abandoned farmland areas of the Greenbelt are old gnarly trees like the one at the left of the frame. This particular Sugar Maple has seen a century of fall. Unfortunately many of these older trees are now dying. One older tree 100 meters further down the trail lost two large limbs this year that made up 70% of the foliage on the tree.
I've passed by this massive tree every week for the last couple of years. Each time I passed I wondered how I could incorporate it in some kind of a landscape photo. Some times I stopped, circled the tree several times while pausing here and there to look at the scene through my viewfinder, but none of the scenes I saw seemed right. But today the mixture of light and fall colors seemed right for a photo of this distinguished tree.
