It is interesting to compare our approaches to the God's Rays/Gull/Clouds subject. You chose a long view, both here and on the next image, spreading the horizon with the majesty of the clouds and rays, yet the gull, while small, is visible because of your placement. I had shot a similar subject four days earlier, and a bit later in the day, using the long lens. (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/128757434 ) As you noted in your comment on it, the glow on the water added a third element of expression to my image, which offers more compact perspective than your monumental sweeping skyscape here. Yet we did make essentially similar images, even though we created them four days apart.
