Looking up the gulch wall at the mixture of alien and native trees on the slopes. Native Halapepe and maua are prominent among the eucalyptus, strawberry guava and Mexican ash. Through my binoculars I saw opuhe under the halapepe, which prompted me to climb the slope and discover the remnant native forest there.
