Many years ago, in the early 1980s, when my wife & I were first married we lived in East Fallowfield Township nearby this historic St. Malachi Church
In fact we attended mass here often during those early married years. We move from that home in 1991 and I haven't seen this tiny church in many years.
I often bicycle near this church's location but forgot the roads that take you to its lovely setting.
On this long bicycling day (73 miles) I was again close to the church. I saw a ranch worker getting her mail from a roadside mail box and asked her if St. Malachi was nearby.
In fact, it was only about 1½ miles from the spot I met this rancher. It was a wonderful visit after so many years.
To my good luck, a caretaker was inside the church cleaning and I was able to get inside for an even more special and unexpected visit.
Some history from an online post:
Saint Malachi Roman Catholic Church, originally named Doe Run Catholic Church, held its first service in a local barn in 1771.
Saint Malachi's is believed to be the second-oldest Catholic Church in the County. In 1794 a small parcel on the McGuire farm was donated to the church for a cemetery.
The stucco-over-stone church building was constructed beside the cemetery in 1839 occupying a beautiful site overlooking the Doe Run valley.
