We had the awesome experience of being able to hold a ruby throated hummingbird in our hands
at the Gulf Coast Observatory Xtreme Hummingbird Extravaganza. This little girl had tiny
hands and the birds were also tiny, most weighing around 5.5 grams. We could feel their little
hearts beating and feel the warmth from their bodies as we each got a chance to hold one
on our hands after it had been weighed and banded by an expert, before it flew off free to join its friends.
