Sometimes some of our most valued possessions are those that would appear to be junk to a person who doesn't know the story behind the item. I have fond memories of being driven around the Quebec countryside by my grandfather, and when he died I wanted the dirty, beaten up license plate from his car to remind me of those times. Translated into English, Je me Souviens means I Remember. The license plate is fastened to my wall near my desk among other family photos. As an aside, I used to collect license plates. I currently have a couple of current issue license plates from various US states fastened to the top of one of my other walls.
The red rose was part of the flower arrangement at my grandfather’s funeral. My grandmother saved this red rose and fastened it to a wall lamp in her living room as a reminder. It remained there until she died. The rose now belongs to my father’s younger brother, but I currently have temporary custody of it while he renovates his house.
