Taken at 40 Acre Lake. In June/July, we had an influx of enormous crawfish--the meat in the claw shown is probably more than a single "crawfish" that would be served in a restaurant. Wild. The gators, birds, raccoons, and who-knows-what-else had a feast, leaving their discards strewn along the path. The luxuriant dining was marvelous to observe.
Butterflies took advantage of the leavings. Some of the visitors were surprises. I expected the regular dung/sap "suckers," but even our nectar feeders would dip down for a meal. This Horace's Duskywing was quite territorial about his prize, defending it from other skippers and a few crescents. He even took a short flight at a Gulf Fritillary.
