Even though we thought we'd camp at Upper Aero lake, we were aware of a nice campsite just above Lower Aero between the two lakes. As we neared the northern shore of Lower Aero we started thinking it might be prudent to just camp there. We were tired and the skies were looking more threatening. It was a good call. Not only was the site fantastic (easy access to water, sheltered, great rocks for Norah to climb, a short scramble up the adjacent hill for stellar views, being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waterfall), but we just beat the thunder storm. We got everything set up and sorted and were in the tent for one minute before the rain started. It began as a normal rainstorm and soon it was raining so hard that we could barely talk. Then the hail started and we could see flashes of lightning. At first we would count "one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand" but as the storm moved in we would only say "one -" before the thunder crashed after a lightning strike. Norah loudly declared that she didn't like thunder. She was a trooper though!
Thankfully the storm was brief and we snapped some pictures a little later.
