Secretary Bird (Sagittarius serpentarius)

Buffalo Springs NP,Kenya

This uniquely African bird offers great entertainment -I could watch them for hours.
Secretary birds run down lizards and small mammals as well as being expert snake-hunters. They use their short powerful toes to stamp prey to death tackling venomous snakes without fear.

This individual was hunting in Buffalo Springs NP but was nesting in Samburu on the other side of the Ewaso Nyiro river -it was a powerful and surprisingly graceful flier!

I don;t think it gets much better then this. What an awesome bird in a perfect setting and angle. The sheer size of the animal is almost intimidating.
