A common thick-knee in sub-Saharan Africa north of the equator, from West-Africa to the Nile valley and East-Africa. Crepuscular and nocturnal, favouring bare grounds in the direct vicinity of slightly moving waters. Has a typical wailing call, sometimes uttered by several birds together and often heard at dawn and dusk.
