Bear #153 on deck railing

Mendenhall Glacier area

On my way into work earlier this month this bear greeted me walking along the railing toward me. It had been exhibiting some other behavior that was inappropriate. I made sure it totally understood this wasn't to be tolerated and it jumped into the tree next to it, dropped down on the ground and left the area. It stayed away for two days and on return was back to it's old easy going self again.

This bear was a cub with a problem mom in 2007 (garbage bear), kicked out by mom in 2008 (black bears keep their cubs about 18 months) and it reverted back to the wild and is living in the Visitor Center area now. It's sibling ended in a facility in Fairbanks because it continued to be a problem in the subdivisions.

Neat shot and story Doug.

Cool shot. I know you don't want this behavior for obvious reasons but still pretty cool. Been to the upper bridge a few times but have only seen a couple of bears so far. Ron
