There I was sitting outside our lodge looking into the darkness on an overcast evening, camera set up on a tripod pointing in the direction of where I knew the volcano was positioned.
Then without warning at 10:24 pm all hell broke lose and Arenal erupted. I set off a 30 second exposure and hoped and prayed I got it right - I got lucky!
A minute later it was all over and Arenal slipped back into darkness.
I love the way the eruption has illuminated the overcast sky.
