lens test for collectors and gearheads

The ubiquitous brick wall...sharpness, distortion (very little) and overall rendition are all excellent to my eyes. Of course there is very noticable light falloff here at maximum aperture.
Subjectively, it produces images with that uniquely "pretty" (?) look I've always associated with Nikon glass.

Incredible distortion for a wide angle lens and the falloff gets better at f/5,6 and smaller. Unbeatable glass!

Another Brick in the Wall. I'm surprised how little distortion this wide lens has. Very clear and sharp and it's still quite sought after and hard to get even though it was replaced by the 20mm f/2.8 in 1984. I agree with you about the pretty look that Nikon Glass has.
