I went to the Baxter Conservation Area on this day and in the nut grove at the far end of the conservation area I encountered many very fresh Tawny-edged Skippers. This was an unexpected find because the season for these butterflies was long over. After speaking with local butterfly experts about this I came to learn that second generations of this butterfly do occur but have historically been very rare.
Also seen in the nut grove were a few each of Northern Crescent, Clouded Sulphur, and Cabbage White. In the nearby marsh there were 2 very fresh White Admirals and a Broad-winged Hawk was circling overhead all the while I was there.
