Obata Sky - One
Idaho - May, 2010

Those of you who know my personally know that I have been inspired by the work of the Japanese-American artist Chiura Obata. As we were driving to Salmon, Idaho I saw this sky and strongly requested that we turn the car around and go back down this side road to make images. "Obata Sky - One" and "Obata Sky - Two" in this gallery are inspired by the Obata wood block called: "Setting Sun in the Sacramento Valley."

I certainly echo Rose's sentiments. The light here was obviously quite wonderful and your inspiration from Obata's sky created a Tim sky of comparable beauty.

I think I'm jealous; why don't my pictures look jaw-dropping beautiful like this?

The texture in the clouds is magnificent, like velvet, and overwhelming in their scale. The light was terrible, and you make it work for you because of the delicacy of the tonalities you have captured here.
