Lamphouse at Bankhead Ghost Town

The lamphouse played a key role for the miner. Each coal miner was assigned a numbered mining lamp. These lamps would be given to the miners at the beginning of their shift and were returned to the lamphouse at the completion of the shift. If a miner's lamp was missing, it was assumed the miner was trapped, and a search would begin.
