After seeing the bear on the trail, I decided to join the other 3 folks as a precaution. But it soon became apparent that they were out to "conquer" the glacier and were at a different pace than I was. At that point, there's a fork in the trail, and you can continue on to Grinnell Glacier, or take a less vertical trail around Lake Josephine. I opted for the leisurely route around the lake.
