There is nothing like stepping into a shallow stream on a hot and humid day! This morning I waded out into the Ottawa River to get to the island north of the ridge at Mud Lake. This was the deepest water I encountered along the 250 foot distance between the mainland and the island. Here the water barely makes it to my knees. There were shallower routes across to the island but I purposefully stepped off into knee deep water like this for the pleasant cooling effect of the flowing water. Every once in a while, though, I felt a cloud of warm water go by and I shudder to think what may have heated the water like that.
