Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus)

This Silver-spotted Skipper has seen better days! It's thorax was worn right down to the cuticle and the wings were tattered almost beyond recognition. This wasn't the scruffiest butterfly I saw today, though. I saw a fritillary species that was so beaten and worn to a light beige that I could barely tell it was a fritillary. This Silver-spotted Skipper was the first and probably only one I'll see this year. This was my first sighting of this species since 2007.
