I think I found where he left his old brown shoe!

This stable has riding boots on every other fence post.

When I was growing up, we used a boot to tell the neighbors if you were home. It was a very rural area and it could mean a half mile trip down a dirt road for nought. They put an old boot out at the gate. If the toe pointed in, toward the house, you were home. Otherwise the toe of te boot pointed out toward town. ;-)
