Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica)

This common and familiar beetle is a member of the Scarab beetle family. It was introduced by accident into North America in the last century and has, over the decades, become well established. It is a strikingly beautiful creature but gardeners hate it because it devours leaves and fruit.

I got rid of my garden Fireweed this year ( not an easy task) as it was so devoured by plagues of Japanese Beetles the past 4 years. I was interested to see if the demise in my garden of its favorite plant would lead to fewer numbers. So far this summer I have only seen one. Are they partial to particular plants at the FWG? They didnt seem to attack much except the Fireweed at my place.
