wheat

Please help me decide on which version is the better one. Alternative, posted in pending:

Wikipedia: Wheat (Triticum spp.) is a grass, originally from the Fertile Crescent region of the Near East, but now cultivated worldwide. In 2007 world production of wheat was 607 million tons, making it the third most-produced cereal after maize (784 million tons) and rice (651 million tons). Globally, wheat is the leading source of vegetable protein in human food, having a higher protein content than either maize (corn) or rice, the other major cereals. In terms of total production tonnages used for food, it is currently second to rice as the main human food crop, and ahead of maize (corn), after allowing for maize's more extensive use in animal feeds.

Thank you guys! It is really great to not only hear your opinion, but also your motivations for preferring one over the other - educational!

Here's how I see it:
Although the two images are quite alike and only different due to a slightly different positioning of the camera, they do tell different stories. The lower angle shot emphasizes the perspective and the upwards striving of the grass towards the light (sky). As such it has a more generic theme. In the higher angle shot, the "heads" of the plants are relatively larger, and so, emphasis is more on the grains of wheat. The position of the camera is still below that of the "heads" and therefore, this version still has an element of "striving towards the light", just not to the same degree as the lower angle shot.

oh boy! now what are you gonna do olaf--all these opinions from the greats! LOL i think they are both wonderful shots--the angle is just a matter of taste and your talent for both taking an image and then presenting it in a challage is excellent! shu

If possible go back in a week or so just before harvest and shoot again for a different perspective.

I too like the lower angle of view in pending. I don't think I've ever seen wheat when it's green and growing, always golden and ready for harvest. Very intriguing. -Michael

I think this entirely a matter of taste...I prefer the lower angle of view....exactly because it makes me look smaller....lol. Nice capture with the 5D and the 20MM prime...it is a big, heavy lens, I have it myself, but it can do nice work. traveller

Both are great shots, but I like this one better Olaf.. maybe because the other makes me feel smaller.
