This is not a native species but was introduced into the UK as a garden curiosity in the early nineteenth century. Although it is now
widely naturalised, this is the first one we have spotted in Yorkshire - and the wife risked a wetting by leaning far out over a
crumbling stream bank to photograph it. Luckily she was unscathed!
